FIELD: chemistry.
SUBSTANCE: method involves liquid-phase reaction of isobutylene or isobutylene-containing hydrocarbon mixture with water at high temperature in the presence of tertiary butyl alcohol as a solvent with forward feeding of the stream of initial reactants into a column reactor filled with several layers of a sulphocationite catalyst, with subsequent extraction of the end product from the obtained reaction mixture through fractionation. The reactor used is filled with four or five catalyst layers in which the amount of catalyst increases from layer to layer in the direction of feeding the stream of initial reactants with the following volume ratio, as a percentage of the total amount of catalyst for a reactor with four layers: in first layer 10-14, in the second layer 16-20, in the third layer 26-30, in the fourth layer 39-45, and with the following volume ratio, as a percentage of the total amount for a reactor with five layers: in the first layer 7-10, in the second layer 11-15, in the third layer 16-20, in the fourth layer 23-28, in the fifth layer 32-38.
EFFECT: method reduces output of by-products and increases the service life of the catalyst in the reactor while maintaining efficiency of the process.
