FIELD: metallurgy.
SUBSTANCE: rail steel contains carbon, manganese, silicon, aluminium, nitrogen, vanadium, chrome, nickel, oxygen, iron and sulphur, phosphorus and copper as impurities at the following component ratio, wt %: carbon 0.71 - 0.90, manganese 0.85 - 1.20, silicon 0.20 - 0.40, aluminium not more than 0.004, nitrogen 0.010 - 0.018, vanadium 0.05 - 0.15, chrome 0.40 - 0.80, nickel 0.03 - 0.20, oxygen of not more than 0.0020, iron and impurities are the rest; at that, impurities are contained in the following amounts: sulphur - not more than 0.020, phosphorus - not more than 0.020, and copper - not more than 0.20.
EFFECT: improving steel purity as per nonmetallic inclusions to improve the reliability and contact fatigue strength of rails.
