FIELD: metallurgy.
SUBSTANCE: rail steel contains carbon, manganese, silicon, chromium, vanadium, nickel, copper, calcium, barium, aluminium, nitrogen, iron and impurities at following ratio of components, wt %: carbon 0.69 - 0.85, manganese 0.75 - 1.25, silicon 0.25 - 0.65, vanadium 0.03 - 0.15, chromium 0.10 - 0.80, nickel not over 0.30, copper not over 0.30, calcium from over 0.005 to 0.008, barium 0.0005 - 0.0015, aluminium not over 0.005, nitrogen from over 0.015 to 0.020, iron and impurities - the rest. As impurities steel contains sulphur not over 0.020 wt % and phosphorus not over 0.020 wt %.
EFFECT: upgraded complex of physical-mechanical properties and operational strength of rails.
