FIELD: machine building.
SUBSTANCE: differential variator comprises several sequential stages of planetary gear sets two of which are closed by common double-wheel ring gears 6 to make closed loop. The number of teeth in stages is selected to make ring gear torque in steady-state conditions exceeds that at output link 9 to ensure invariable torque transmission to said output link. In transient state, moment of inertial force from weight of link made up of double-wheel planetary gear 6 of the first and third stages proportionate to angular acceleration of link 9 and weight of gear 6 promotes smooth variation on torque at output link in preset range to increase or decrease it subject to the sign of acceleration.
EFFECT: variable torque at output shaft with no special braking of one or several links.
