FIELD: physics.
SUBSTANCE: method of obtaining polarisation holograms involves a first step for calculating a phase hologram having complex distribution of amplitude and phase. At the second step, by replacing phase distribution values with polarisation directions, a polarisation hologram is calculated from the phase hologram. At the third step, the calculated polarisation hologram is transferred onto carrier material containing a substance in which directed birefringence can be locally formed using light. The device for obtaining a polarisation hologram has a computing unit through which mathematical calculations can be made; a light source through which polarised light can be obtained, said light having controlled polarisation direction and being a recording laser in which the polarisation direction can be established in at least two steps. The device also has a unit through which polarised light can be directed onto the material, particularly such that different points in and (or) on the material can be illuminated with light of different polarisation direction and a phase changer which changes polarisation by π/2, through which additional polarisation can be established.
EFFECT: possibility of recording a polarisation hologram onto carrier material which is synthesised on a computer.
