SUBSTANCE: apparatus and method determine physical characteristics of cells of the same configuration in accordance with given printing conditions, wherein the ratio of cells printed with printing errors, arising exclusively due to unforeseen variables, is greater than a given first value and less than a given second value; an information item is provided by changing the external appearance of the cells representing said physical characteristics; said configuration is printed using said printing conditions, wherein said configuration is made while allowing recognition of a copy which modifies the external appearance of the set of said cells.
