SUBSTANCE: data of measurements, continuous measurements aimed at the production machine, are collected when the machine is being controlled by an operator to perform work. Operating cycles associated with said work are determined by identifying said operating cycles using mathematical techniques and based on measurement data obtained from the production machine. The time of the operating cycles and changes in the state between operating cycles associated with said work is determined, wherein the determination is based on said measurement data. Characteristic values representing said work and performance of the operator are derived through a model which applies a fuzzy logic-based evaluation method, wherein the derivation is based on said measurement data and time of operating cycles and changes in state. Said characteristic data are collected to evaluate operating performance or for comparison.
