FIELD: chemistry.

SUBSTANCE: invention relates to methods of obtaining sorbents of organic compounds from carbon residue formed during pyrolysis of rubber-containing wastes, including used tyres. The method involves pyrolysis of used tyres to obtain a carbon residue, activation of the carbon residue with water vapour fed into a pyrolysis chamber from the bottom from an external source for not less than 10 minutes. The carbon residue is then cooled from 450-500°C to 150-200°C with further activation thereof by periodically feeding water from the top into the pyrolysis chamber in several steps in amount of not less than 0.12 l per 1.0 kg residue. The process is carried out while periodically varying pressure in the pyrolysis chamber by 10-30% of nominal pressure. Periodic variation of pressure in the pyrolysis chamber is carried out with period Tper minutes, determined using the expression Tper≥Tabsorb+even.ΔPafter absorb +Tpump+even.ΔPafter pump, where Tabsorb+even.ΔPafter absorb, Tpump+even.ΔPafter pump is time over which drop and increase in pressure in the top part of the pyrolysis chamber using a discharge cylinder takes place. These time intervals are measured by a timer connected to a secondary device operating together with a differential manometer connected with one cavity higher and the other cavity lower than the carbon residue in the pyrolysis chamber.

EFFECT: high accuracy of determining duration of the period of variation pressure of the vapour-gas mixture by the discharge cylinder in the pyrolysis chamber.
