METHOD OF INHIBITING SCALING Russian patent published in 2012 - IPC C02F5/14

Abstract RU 2458867 C2

FIELD: chemistry.

SUBSTANCE: invention relates to methods of preventing deposit of mineral salts and can be used in protection from scaling of surfaces of boilers, boiler auxiliary equipment and devices of heat energy users in heat and steam supply systems in industry, energy and public utilities, as well as for protection from scaling of recycling water supply systems. The method of inhibiting scaling involves adding into water organophosphonic acids, salts of said acids or complexes of said acids with metals if the relationship of the scaling inhibition boundary is satisfied where C+ is concentration in water of the cation of the salt which forms scales, mol/dm3; i is the number of cations in the formula of the salt which forms scales; C- is concentration in water of the anion of the salt which forms scales, mol/dm3; j is the number of anions in the formula of the salt which forms scales; P0 is the product of solubility of the salt which forms scales; σ is the free surface energy of the boundary between water and the salt which forms scales, J/m2; a, b, c are the lengths of the cell edges of the crystal lattice of the salt which forms scales, m (a<b<c); α, β, γ are the angles between cell edges of the crystal lattice of the salt which forms scales; k is the Boltzmann constant, k=1,38·10-23 J/K; T is the absolute temperature, K; n is the number of symbolic units of the salt which forms scales in one cell of the crystal lattice. If said relationship is not satisfied, water is further treated to reduce concentration of at least one of the ions of the salt which forms scales via ion exchange or acidification of water or decarbonisation of water, wherein concentration of ions of the salt which forms scales in the water is periodically monitored using a titrimetric, electrochemical or photocolorimetric method until the relationship of the scaling inhibition boundary is satisfied, after which organophosphonic acids, salts of said acids or complexes of said acids with metals are added to the water.

EFFECT: method provides reliable prevention of scaling and reduces technological risks associated with formation of scales on surfaces of process equipment.
