FIELD: chemistry.
SUBSTANCE: invention relates to a method of producing 2,6-diisobornyl-4-hydroxy-4-methyl-2,5-cyclohexadien-1-one. The method involves oxidation of phenol in an organic solvent by bubbling an oxidant into a reaction mixture or adding an oxidant solution by drops in an organic solvent at temperature from -10 to 40°C. The oxidant used is chlorine dioxide, the phenol used is terpenic phenol, specifically 2,6-diisobornyl-4-methylphenol in an organic solvent. The molar ratio of reactants is equal to 1:1-5, respectively.
EFFECT: invention increases output of 2,6-diisobornyl-4-hydroxy-4-methyl-2,5-cyclohexadien-1-one.
