However, according to the first version of the method, ichloromethane or dimethylformamide is used as a solvent, and an aqueous solution of chlorine dioxide - as an oxidizer, the oxidation is carried out at a molar ratio of the reactants styrene: chlorine dioxide of 1:2 respectively, the extraction reaction is carried out with chloroform, drying - Na₂SO₄, the removal of the solvent is carried out under reduced pressure after the chromatographic separation. According to the second version, the method comprises the oxidation of styrene or its organic solution at room temperature with constant stirring, separation, isolation of the target product. Herewith an aqueous solution of chlorine dioxide is used as an oxidizing agent, the oxidation is carried out by bubbling the oxidant with air into styrene or a styrene solution with a molar ratio of styrene: chlorine dioxide 1:2, respectively, the separation of the desired product is carried out by the chromatographic separation.
