FIELD: chemistry.
SUBSTANCE: invention relates to a method of converting methane to higher-molecular weight hydrocarbon(s), containing aromatic hydrocarbon(s), in a reaction zone. The method involves the following steps: (a) feeding into said reaction zone a hydrocarbon starting material containing methane; (b) feeding into said reaction zone a certain amount of catalytic material; (c) maintaining an inverse temperature profile in said reaction zone and (d) operation of said reaction zone in reaction conditions sufficient for converting at least a portion of said methane into a first effluent containing higher-molecular weight hydrocarbon(s).
EFFECT: use of the present method ensures high efficiency of heat transfer and enables to achieve maximum selectivity with respect to end hydrocarbons while minimising coke formation.
