FIELD: physics.
SUBSTANCE: method involves variation of inertia properties of a mechanism by connecting an additional flywheel with known moment of inertia and measuring angular velocity of the reduction link. The turning angle of the reduction link is further measured and change in angular acceleration of the reduction link, caused by connecting the proof mass, is determined. The reduced moment of inertia is determined as a function of the turning angle of the reduction link from a numerical solution of a differential equation.
EFFECT: high measurement accuracy.
