SUBSTANCE: method of identifying a protective label containing a luminophore, having afterglow, involves applying an exciting action meant to excite the luminophore contained in the label; making a series of measurements of energy radiated by the protective label, wherein during each measurement using an accumulation-type photodetector, the amount of energy is measured, which is radiated during a time interval set uniquely for each measurement such that during the series of measurements, for at least some of the measurements, the corresponding given time intervals increase; a vector of features of the label is then formed, separate components of which are calculated as a function, each depending on results of at least two energy measurements in the series, and the label is recognised based on the obtained vector of features; the recognition result is used to determine whether the label belongs to one of predetermined classes or not.

EFFECT: high accuracy of identification of labels.
