FIELD: power industry.

SUBSTANCE: percentage of isotope 208Pb in lead reflector in nuclear reactor operating on quick neutrons, containing active zone with fuel, which is enclosed with lead reflector of neutrons, equals to ≥90%. Effect consists in retardation of chain fission reaction on instantaneous neutrons in active zone due to time lag of neutrons that escaped to lead reflector, were retarded there and as a result of diffusion returned to active zone. Besides, in a particular case layer of neutron retarding material with low atomic weight, for example graphite, adjoins the lead reflector on outer side.

EFFECT: additional retardation of slow neutrons at collision with nuclei of material with low atomic weight.
