FIELD: physics.

SUBSTANCE: material is cyclically loaded until failure. The number of loading cycles before failure is determined with fixed level of loading and establishing correlation between the level of cyclic loading and the number of cycles before failure. In the region of longevity of 106-108 cycles, tests are carried out while simultaneously recording information-bearing parameters of acoustic emission signals from which facture initiation is determined, after which cyclic loading is stopped. The test material is monotonously stretched until failure in order to expose the surface of the fracture. The obtained surface (fracture) is placed into an electron microscope and analysed. The position of the fracture nucleus on the surface determines whether the tests are in the region of multiple-cycle fatigue.

EFFECT: high reliability of using test results to determine parameters of a multiple-cycle fatigue curve.
