FIELD: chemistry.
SUBSTANCE: invention relates to a method of producing base oils, which involves steps where crude material, selected from ketones, aldehydes, alcohols, carboxylic acids, carboxylic esters and carboxylic acid anhydride, metal salts of carboxylic acids and combinations thereof, derived from biological starting material, are treated at a condensation step and then treated at a combined hydro-defunctionalisation and isomerisation step, and the product is fed into a distillation and/or separation apparatus where components of the product, which boil in a different temperature range, are separated from each other in order to extract base oils having kinematic viscosity KV100 from approximately 2 mm2/s to approximately 6 mm2/s.
EFFECT: obtaining high-quality base oils from renewable raw material sources.
