FIELD: physics.

SUBSTANCE: to determine thermal activity of a material, a reference plate made from material with known thermal properties is placed on the surface of the analysed sample. The surface of the plate opposite the contact surface with the analysed sample is periodically heated by a flat heater. Temperature sensors built into the plate simultaneously detect temperature changes at two points inside the plate: near the heater and near the contact surface. Results of the experiment are used to select the fundamental harmonic and estimate the ratio of temperature fluctuation amplitudes for the two sensors. Thermal activity of the material of the sample is determined from the amplitude ratio. The apparatus consists of a reference plate, a flat heating element and two temperature sensors, assembled into a single thermal activity sensor and connected to the control unit of the heating element and a temperature recording unit. The working surface of the sensor in contact with the surface of the surface of the analysed sample is the surface of the reference plate opposite the heating element.
