FIELD: physics.
SUBSTANCE: invention relates to novel photochromic recording media for three-dimensional (3D) optical memory with photorefractive nondestructive reading of optical information for use in new-generation multilayer optical discs with capacity of more than 1 TB, which enable to create 3D random-access optical memory. Disclosed is a photochromic recording medium for 3D optical memory with nondestructive photorefractive reading of optical information on the wavelength of a helium-neon laser (632.8 nm) in form of a layer which contains a thermally irreversible photochromic compound from a group of diarylethenes of formula (la), (lb), (Ic) and (Id), or from a group of fulgimides of formula (lla) and (llb). The recording medium can additionally contain an optically transparent polymer binder.
EFFECT: photochromic recording medium has high value of photo-induced change in refraction index, which provides reliable and efficient nondestructive reading of optical information.
