FIELD: physics.

SUBSTANCE: micrometer includes a clamp, a heelpiece, a stopper, a micrometer screw and a drum body on whose right hand end there is a slack adjuster. The slack adjuster is in form of a rolled cylindrical surface and has a diameter of not less than 1.5 times greater than the diameter of the rolled part of the drum of the micrometer head and the cap of the slack adjuster, and in the middle of the rolled cylindrical surface of the slack adjuster, after every 120°, there are arrows which indicate the direction of rotation of the drum during the measurement process. The rolled cylindrical surface of the slack adjuster and the arrows are green and black coloured, respectively. The rolled surfaces of the stopper, the drum and the cap of the slack adjuster of the micrometer are coloured red.

EFFECT: high accuracy and stability of results of measuring diameters of shafts due to stabilisation of the measuring force by rotating the drum particularly through the rolled cylindrical surface of the slack adjuster, which becomes possible and inevitable using the disclosed design of the micrometer.
