SUBSTANCE: method of making a pair of multifocal contact lenses involves a step for providing a first lens structure for the dominant eye of the lens wearer and a first lens structure for the non-dominant eye of the lens wearer, a step for selecting a first weight function which is a first function of neural contrast sensitivity applicable to the lens structure for the dominant eye, and a second weight function which is a second function of neural contrast sensitivity applicable to the lens structure for the non-dominant eye, a step for using the first weight function for the first lens structure and the second weight function for the second lens structure in characteristic prediction models for each of the first and second lens structures, where a characteristic prediction model links measured characteristics of two or more lens structures with a predicted characteristic for each of the first and second lens structures, and a step for using results obtained at previous steps, including calculation of the predicted visual characteristic using a prediction model, first by calculating the weighted area of the optical transfer function in accordance with an equation given in the claim.
