FIELD: chemistry.
SUBSTANCE: method involves pyrolysis of hydrocarbon material, quenching the pyrolysis gases, recycling their heat, wherein quenching of pyrolysis gas is carried out with an inert gas to temperature 500-600°C for 0.2-1 s; pyrolysis is carried out at temperature 800-1600°C for 0.1-0.5 s in a liquid-metal coolant. The hydrocarbon material used can be methane-containing or carbon dioxide gas. The pyrolysis reactor has, in a sealed heated housing, a crucible 1 with a cover 2 and liquid-metal coolant 3 in which a ceramic tube for feeding the hydrocarbon material is immersed. A ceramic cup 5 is mounted concentric with the ceramic tube and its bottom 6 is attached to the cover 2. There are through-holes 7, 8 in the bottom 6 of the cup 5 and the cover 2 for feeding quenched gas into the cup 5 over the liquid-metal coolant 3 and outlet thereof in a mixture with reaction products, and on the side walls of the cover 2 there are pipes 9, 10 for feeding purging gas into the space around the cup over the melt and removal thereof.
