FIELD: medicine.
SUBSTANCE: invention refers to medicine, namely ophthalmology and may be used for differential diagnosis of normal tension glaucoma and partial optic atrophy with optic disc cupping. Compression ocular hypertension is performed. The observed supraliminal paracentral scotomas are recorded. A total retinal light sensitivity defect is shown by the observed scotomas with marking a post-compression disappearance time of these paracentral scotomas. Optic nerve sensitivity to compression ocular hypertension is described as the total retinal light sensitivity defect multiplied by the scotoma disappearance time, and if the derived value is less than 36, partial optic atrophy is diagnosed, while the related value exceeding 36 shows normal tension glaucoma. The technique provides higher effectiveness of detecting the disease with accompanying optic disc cupping: normal tension glaucoma and partial optic atrophy.
EFFECT: accurate diagnosis enables the well-timed appropriate therapy to be prescribed.
