FIELD: process engineering.
SUBSTANCE: invention relates to metal forming and may be used in making steel grinding balls by flash-free forming. Rod stock heated to 1000-1200°C is cut to cut-to-length sections. Produced cut-to-length sections are heated further to 800-1220°C and placed in die assembly. Grinding balls are formed in open press tool for flash-free forming. Said press tool comprise top and bottom plates and top and bottom inserts interacting therewith along supporting planes. Said inserts have working cavities to make spherical forming surface. Spherical surface radius center is shifted from press tool clearance center line along vertical toward moving plate by distance defined from enclosed relations.
EFFECT: flash-free balls of higher durability and impact strength.
