FIELD: physics.
SUBSTANCE: invention relates to vacuum tube microwave devices, particularly powerful pulsed microwave generators of the type of relativistic klystrons and vircators. The klystron-type microwave device has, connected to a pulsed high voltage source, an explosive-emission cathode and anode, a resonance structure in form of a high-Q modulating resonator and an output resonator, an electron collector, an electron beam feedback circuit and a radiation output apparatus. The novelty in the disclosed device is that the cathode and anode are merged to form a low-impedance diode, wherein the modulating resonator is matched with the output resonator to enable formation of VK in the output resonator. In a specific embodiment, in the klystron-type microwave device, matching of the resonators is provided by making the modulating resonator in form of a cylindrical resonator which is formed by two anode grids and the cylindrical surface of the anode, and the output resonator is in form of a toroidal resonator with a gap formed between a second anode grid and a collector grid mounted on the electron collector.
EFFECT: invention enables to generate microwaves without a drift tube, idler resonators and a magnetic system, which are characteristic for a classic klystron, by improving the design of the electrodynamic structure of the device.
