FIELD: electricity.
SUBSTANCE: generator on a virtual cathode comprises a source of electrons, comprising the following serially arranged components: a thermal cathode (1), a focusing electrode (2), a modulating lattice (3) and an anode (4), a cylindrical drift tube (6) of an electronic beam (5) for generation of the virtual cathode in it, an inlet lattice (7), arranged at the inlet to the drift tube, a collector (9). The generator additionally comprises a circular magnet (12), enclosing the drift tube, a mechanism for displacement of the circular magnet along the drift tube, at the same time the collector is made in the form of a cylindrical electrode and is arranged inside the output part of the drift tube coaxially with it, forming a coaxial power output (10).
EFFECT: development of an easily controlled source of noise-like wideband microwave electromagnetic oscillations of low and medium level of capacity of centimetre and millimetre range of wavelengths on the basis of the intensive electronic beam in modes with generation of the virtual cathode.
