FIELD: chemistry.

SUBSTANCE: sensor layer which contains immobilised boron difluoride dibenzoylmethanate (BDDMF2) fluorophore or methyl- or methoxy derivative thereof is illuminated with light with a maximum in the 360-380 nm wavelength range and fluorescence intensity of the sensor layer is recorded; appearance of benzene, toluene or xylene vapour is determined from the drop in fluorescence intensity of the sensor layer at wavelength in the range of 415-425 nm and/or from the increase in fluorescence of the sensor layer at the maximum of the exciplex fluorescence band of BDDMF2 or methyl- or methoxy derivative thereof with the determined analyte in the 430-530 nm range.

EFFECT: use of the present method enables to achieve short response time of the sensor material, easy measurement, possibility of distinguishing vapour of pure benzene, toluene and xylene isomers, possibility of analysing composition of their binary mixtures, possibility of reusing the material.
