FIELD: metallurgy.
SUBSTANCE: firing pulse is generated by power accumulated in arc power source inductor when circuit current exceeds holding current. For this, prior to feeding firing pulse to arc gap parallel with arc power source output terminals, control switch is cut on to short-circuit arc power source circuit. Current is allowed to up to holding current. Controlled switch is cut off to allow pulse transformer primary current is changed over to charging of reservoir capacitor. Voltage induced in pulse transformer secondary is applied to electrode gap to break it down for initial ionization of arc gap. Now welding circuit is closed.
EFFECT: higher quality of weld joint, decreased weight and sizes, decreased labor input, higher safety.
