FIELD: electricity.

SUBSTANCE: currents and phase voltages are measured on the first and second ends of the line. Phase-to-phase currents and voltages are generated from measured currents and voltages. Emergency components of phase-to-phase currents are identified, as well as emergency components of phase-to-phase voltages. Moments of time t1 and t2 are fixed on the first and second ends of the line, for the time period, when a threshold value is exceeded by the sum of emergency components of phase-to-phase voltages and emergency components of appropriate phase-to-phase currents multiplied by a coefficient equal to an equivalent value of phase-to-phase wave resistance. Using the measured difference (t1 -t2), the distance to the damage area is calculated.

EFFECT: increased sensitivity and accuracy of damage area detection.
