FIELD: chemistry.
SUBSTANCE: invention relates to a method of producing triethylene tetramine (TETA). The method involves steps a) and b). At step a) formaldehyde reacts with hydrogen cyanide (HCN) to obtain formaldehyde cyanohydrin (FACH) which then reacts with ethylenediamine (EDA) to obtain ethylenediamine diacetonitrile (EDDN), possibly in a mixture with other aminonitriles containing ethylenediamine monoacetonitrile (EDMN). The molar ratio EDA:FACH ranges from 1:1.5 to 1:2 [mol/mol] and the molar ratio of EDA: formaldehyde: HCN ranges from 1:1.5:1.5 to 1:2:2 [mol/mol/mol]. At step b) EDDN obtained at step a) is hydrogenated in the presence a Raney catalyst and a solvent to obtain TETA, possibly in a mixture with other ethyleneamines.
EFFECT: method is quite simple and enables to obtain TETA with high selectivity and output.
