FIELD: chemistry.
SUBSTANCE: invention relates to a method of producing triethylene tetraamine (TETA), optionally in a mixture with other ethylene amines. The method involves hydrogenation of ethylene diamine diacetonitrile (EDDN), optionally in a mixture with other aminonitriles, particularly ethylene diamine monoacetonitrile (EDMN), in the presence of a Raney catalyst and a solvent. Pressure ranges from 30 to 250 bar and temperature ranges from 40°C to 150°C. The preferred Raney catalyst is a Raney cobalt skeleton catalyst which is obtained from a Co/Al alloy by leaching in aqueous solution of an alkali metal hydroxide and which contains at least one of Fe, Ni or Cr as a promoter. The preferred solvent is water and/or an organic solvent, particularly tetrahydrofuran or methanol.
EFFECT: method enables to obtain TETA with high output and/or selectivity.
