FIELD: physics.
SUBSTANCE: laser range finder has a transmitting channel for generating a beam of probe radiation and directing said radiation onto a target. The transmitting channel includes a laser emitter and a transmitting optical system. A receiving channel, which is parallel to the transmitting channel, for receiving the signal reflected by the target, includes a photodetector and a receiving lens. The transmitting channel includes an optical element adapted to change the direction of the optical axis, which is placed such that a portion of the energy of the probe radiation is directed towards targets lying in a range from R0 to R1 in the field of view of the receiving channel. A portion of this radiation which is reflected by the target and falls on the sensitive area of the photodetector through the receiving lens corresponds to the operating threshold of the photodetector. R0<R1 is the given minimum measured range. R1 is the length of the shadow zone formed in the range where the fields of view of the transmitting and receiving channels do not overlap.
EFFECT: reducing the minimum measured range by reducing the shadow zone of the apparatus function.
