FIELD: textiles, paper.
SUBSTANCE: on the original image of the knitted fabric sample a small area (local element) is marked, for example, in the form of a rectangle. The local element is shifted in two directions, horizontally and vertically. Then, the local maxima of the autocorrelation function of the image are found and the average period of extension of horizontal and vertical dark bands is estimated. Then the sizes are calculated and the matrix of the fabric is built, within the dimensions of the matrix the points formed by pores are placed, and they are interpolated by cubic parametric spline, the image of the loop of the fabric under study is obtained and according to it geometric features, such as the loop length, the loop width, the loop height, the height of the loop row, the loop step, the thickness of the thread are determined using the known dependences.
