FIELD: physics.
SUBSTANCE: apparatus has a spring drive which drives a diamond indenter by the force of a retracted spring, with an oscillator screw and ball bearings for fastening an actuator screw, a supporting plate with three supports, a notch wheel on the spring drive for controlling rotation, a sliding block with bearing balls for sliding, an actuator screw with a micro-thread, a ratchet pawl with a recoil spring, a working pin which rests by its end on a supporting elastic plate with strain gauges, a working nut with a fastening plate, an indenter in form of a cone with a vertex angle of 120°, a rear wall of the drive for attaching the handle of the device, a handle, a plate for attaching the handle, a micrometer head, a self-contained device for measuring change in ohmic resistance of the strain gauges when loaded.
EFFECT: broader operational capabilities of the apparatus for determining hardness of materials directly in structural components and in machine components with curved, broken and other geometric surfaces lying arbitrarily in space without cutting pieces for samples, at any temperature, and deviation from measurement resolution of the width of the scratch.
