FIELD: physics.
SUBSTANCE: device consists of a probing signal transmitter, receivers tuned to double and triple the frequency of the probing signal, a control unit, a processing unit, a control and display panel, an antenna unit, a maximum signal detector, an electronic switch and a laser pointer. A monoharmonic probing signal generated by the transmitter is fed to a transmitting antenna and emitted towards the investigated object. The response signal re-emitted by the investigated object is received by the receiving antenna. Signals of the second and third harmonics of the probing frequency, whose signal levels are displayed on the displays of the display unit, are extracted from said response signal and processed. Objects containing electronic circuits, with semiconductor components, are distinguished from objects made of metal based on the ratio of levels of response signals at frequencies of the second and third harmonics of the probing frequency. The maximum signal detector determines the maximum of the response signal at the frequency of the second harmonic and at its onset, through the electronic switch, switches on the laser pointer which shows the location of the radio-controlled explosive device.
