FIELD: transport.

SUBSTANCE: invention relates to railway electric locomotives. Proposed method consists in using excitation rectifier built around electronic switches to generate commutator motor excitation current. Said rectifier ensures excitation current pulsation with phase approximating to line voltage amplitude pulsations. Switches are cut in at the moment approximating to that of voltage zero crossing and cut off in time smaller than half the half-period of line voltage but sufficient to maintain the current in excitation circuit. Proposed device comprises thyristor rectifier-inverter transducer, train of ballast resistors, diodes, motors, and excitation rectifier. The latter consists of two or more electric switches and diode. Said switches are controlled by their appropriate control circuit. Said diode is connected parallel with motor excitation windings. Said switches are connected in between one or more excitation windings and motor winding excitation circuit.

EFFECT: higher power factor.
