SUBSTANCE: computer readable data medium having computer executable commands for performing the following operations: maintaining, in a first server component of electronic mail, independent first data relating to changes in an electronic mail message visible to the client component of electronic mail; accessing the independent first data in a second server component of electronic mail; encoding, in the second server component of electronic mail, said independent first data as a range, said range having a minimum index number and a maximum index number; second data are maintained in said second server component of electronic mail, which relate to changes in the electronic mail message visible to said client component of electronic mail.
EFFECT: providing compatibility of electronic mail components of different versions with minimisation of the size of data transferred between network components of electronic mail, while detecting changes in electronic mail messages.
