SUBSTANCE: using an echo sounder, probing signals are emitted by the echo sounder, echo signals reflected from the object are received with the echo sounder, internal speed of the echo sounder carrier is measured, the distance D1 is determined to the splashing-down object at the moment of arrival of the echo signal reflected from it and caused by the first sending of the probing signal emitted at the moment of time t1, detection of the distance Dn at the moment of echo signal completion caused by n sending of the probing signal, emitted at the moment of time t1+nT, and submersion depth is determined for the splashing-down object at the moment of time t1+nT, as well as speed of object submersion.

EFFECT: provision of the possibility for remote measurement of splashing-down object submersion depth and measurement of object submersion speed relative to a horizon of carrier motion.
