SUBSTANCE: material for a carbon electrode permeable for vapours and gases in a cross direction, comprising vertical through channels, represents a carbon-carbon composite material on the basis of a graphite filler and binding polyacrylonitrile with vertical through cylindrical channels with a diameter of 8-52 mcm, with a number of channels of 150-250 per 1 mm2 of the surface, with a diameter of natural pores of 2 between particles of the filler of 1.5-1.8 mcm, porosity of 33-82%, specific volume electric resistance of 4.7-7.1 MOhm·cm, compression strength of 42-148 MPa.
EFFECT: increased density of fuel element working current, increased strength and gas permeability of a carbon electrode.
