FIELD: information technology.
SUBSTANCE: method of determining coordinates of "space mouse" type manipulator for inputting data into a computer involves use of a permanent non-calibrated magnet as a transmitter; generating a magnetic field using said magnet; measuring the magnetic field at several points concentrated in a compact region in space; using said field measurements to solve the inverse problem for the magnetic dipole and, as a result, determining three spatial coordinates and two angular coordinates of the field source (magnetic dipole). The apparatus for determining coordinates of a "space mouse" type manipulator for inputting data into a computer has a magnet as a transmitter and uses the magnetic field as the information carrier, wherein the receiver is in form of a set of magnetic field sensors connected through an amplifier to analogue-to-digital converters, the outputs of which are connected to a microprocessor or directly to a personal computer.
EFFECT: easy implementation of the process of determining coordinates, compactness of the apparatus realising said method, simple design of the transmitter, avoiding a wire link between the transmitter and the receiver, enabling use of an non-calibrated magnet as a field source.
