FIELD: medicine.
SUBSTANCE: sclera is punctured with a needle 20 G at 4 mm from limb through a flat portion of ciliary body in chinchilla rabbits. A silicone tip 20 G is then introduced through the puncture, and mechanical massage of the central area of retina follows at a distance equal to one diameter of an optic disk, from the optic disk. The massage is aided by an ophthalmic microscope and completed once the pigment epithelium is destructed.
EFFECT: reliable technically simple method for simulating age-related macular degeneration with reduced length of simulating.
