FIELD: physics.
SUBSTANCE: invention relates to nuclear engineering, particularly structures of pellets for light-water reactors (LWR) as well as AGR and IGR reactors. LWR reactors normally use ceramic uranium dioxide fuel (UO2). The disclosed structure of the pellet is a composite structure, i.e. is a uranium dioxide matrix in which a heat-conducting phase is placed in a special manner. The direction of thermal flux in the fuel coincides with the orientation of the heat-conducting phase. Heat is transferred by monocrystalline particles of beryllium oxide with a needle-like or plate-like shape, size of 40-200 mcm, which are optically transparent and dispersed in the uranium dioxide matrix.
EFFECT: invention increases heat-conductivity of the pellet material.
