FIELD: nuclear power engineering.
SUBSTANCE: pellets with adjustable microstructure are composed of uranium dioxide or uranium dioxide with 2.0-8.0% of gadolinium oxide additive including alumina. In addition to alumina, alloying additive also contains at least one oxide selected from TiO2, Nb2O5, SiO2, CaO, MgO, BeO, Na2O, and P2O5 in amount providing content of aluminum and oxide-forming element from indicated series within a range of 20 to 500 ppm for each element based on the weight of uranium at following proportion: 60-85% Al and the rest above-indicated oxide-forming element. Alloying additive is added, without preliminary caking thereof followed by disintegration, directly during preparation of press-powder.
EFFECT: improved quality of pellets.
