FIELD: power industry.

SUBSTANCE: microstructure of the nuclear fuel pellet has metal clusters in the form of the chemical compounds U2 and U22+ with the chemical bond U-U, pores with the size 1-5 microns are distributed along boundaries of grains, and inside grains the nanosized pores are mainly located. Besides, the share of metal clusters is from 0.01 up to 2 wt %. The method of production of the nuclear fuel pellet includes sedimentation of ammonium polyuranate in two stages at different pH values. Agglomeration is performed at the temperature from 1600 to 2200°C in the hydrogenous medium in insignificant quantity of the liquid phase which is formed due to fusion of metal clusters at the temperature above 1150°C.

EFFECT: more reliable special structure and simple composition of the fuel cell of uranium dioxide without foreign additives or with their insignificant quantity, close to properties of monocrystal with increased heat conductivity at high temperature, and easy method of its production.
