FIELD: technological processes; nuclear technology.

SUBSTANCE: invention relates to the production technology of sintered ceramic fuel pellets for nuclear reactors containing fissile materials, in particular uranium dioxide powder. Method involves the spark plasma sintering of pre-pressed powder of uranium dioxide UO2 in a molybdenum mold in a vacuum under the influence of a unipolar pulsating current with a constant controlled pressing pressure. Process is carried out with stepwise heating to a temperature of 850–1,100 °C with an average speed of its rise 60–65 °C/min and exposure at the maximum temperature reached within 270–330 s.

EFFECT: invention makes it possible to improve the quality of the ceramics obtained, to increase the packing density of the crystallites forming it and the apparent density by eliminating the diffusion of carbon into the volume of the sintered material.
