FIELD: chemistry.

SUBSTANCE: invention relates to a cupola furnace and a method of obtaining fibres of mineral wool from molten silica in the cupola furnace. The cupola furnace for producing molten silica for producing light-coloured fibres of mineral wool includes feeding into the cupola furnace at least two different types of briquettes having a different composition in which chemical components are matched at the expected content of iron, wherein components from Al₂O₃ in the briquettes serve as the support structure for the melting process. The briquettes are heated using high-temperature gas burners which are located in the conically divergent wall of a circular collecting tray at vertices of an equilateral triangle, wherein central axes thereof lie at an angle to the diameter of the collecting tray such that flame jets of the burners intensify each other, wherein the collecting tray conically expands downwards from the stack casing to the furnace seat.

EFFECT: obtaining light-yellow fibres of mineral wool using gas burners.
