FIELD: metallurgy.
SUBSTANCE: invention relates to a method of producing mineral wool and cast iron by melting a mixture of materials, such as basalt, blast-furnace slag, coke and components required for melting, with an additive, containing aluminum oxide, which enables to control content of aluminum to obtain mineral wool, having the following composition (wt %): Al2O3: 18–22; SiO2: 40–50; CaO: 10–15; MgO: <10; FeO <2; Na2O <4; K2O <2. Method includes the following operations: production by slag and cast iron melting, slag and cast iron separation, as well as performing fiberization operation on slag with subsequent binding operation to produce mineral wool. According to the invention, at least one spent adsorbent and/or catalyst is used as an additive, wherein said catalyst contains aluminum oxide in form of Al2O3. Said adsorbent and/or catalyst preferably contains at least one metal from group of Ni, Co, Mo, W and V, wherein said metal is extracted into cast iron.
EFFECT: production of slag for production of mineral wool and alloyed cast iron of commercial quality into one pyrometallurgical stage.
