FIELD: metallurgy.
SUBSTANCE: in the method a strip coated with a liquid coating metal, at the outlet of a tank for application of a coating is moved from the area not exposed to a magnetic field, into another area, which is exposed to a static magnetic field (B), developed between poles (N, S) of magnetic elements (A1, A2, B1, B2), installed oppositely to each other at each side of the strip, and field lines of which create a crossing, at least, on minimum longitudinal length with the specified strip, so that the liquid coating metal is correlatively exposed to an AC magnetic field that creates a force on the specified liquid metal, which counteracts its movement together with the strip. In view of a minor change of the field the effect of magnetic braking develops few eddy currents in the strip, and the scattered power for achievement of effect of efficient squeezing of the liquid coating metal turns out to be substantially limited.
EFFECT: invention makes it possible to minimise heating of a strip and provide for accurate monitoring of applied coating thickness, at the same time mechanical application of traces onto a strip and any effect of spraying are eliminated.
