FIELD: instrumentation.

SUBSTANCE: bolt of tested thread joint is locked against turning, thread joint is tightened by subjecting said bolt to full working axial load, strains in thread joint at load are registered and thread joint is unloaded after reaching preset tightening force. Thread joints differing in one or several parameters, for example, overall dimensions of the nut, roughness of turn surface, thread pitch, nominal diameter, are subjected to tests at equal axial loads. In loading and unloading every thread joint, nut radial strain or relative displacement of turns are registered to record hysteresis loop in coordinates "axial load - nut radial strain" or "axial load - relative displacement of turns". Thread joint with optimum damping properties is selected proceeding from hysteresis loop area. Note here that thread joint larger hysteresis loop area is optimum design solution.

EFFECT: simplified experimental selection without complicated calculations, directly in thread turns.
