SUBSTANCE: in the invention, banknotes are moved by a conveying system past one or more sensors. Banknotes moved past the sensors at least periodically touch the surface of the sensors. To increase the reliability of movement of banknotes, the surface of the sensor along which the banknotes move is provided with a plurality of elevations or depressions. The structured sensor surface reduces the friction between the sensor surface and the valuable document being moved past said sensor, with the result that movement of the valuable document is stabilised and the susceptibility to jamming is reduced.
EFFECT: reducing forces pressing the valuable document to the surface of the sensor.
